Lawrence H. Newbrough, 92, U.S. Army Veteran

Photo of Lawrence H. Newbrough Lawrence H. Newbrough, 92, of Lorain passed away on Friday, October 14, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Newbrough was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia on February 5, 1924, the son of the late Joseph Porter and Lillie May (nee Lewis) Newbrough.

He served in the US Army during WW II. He earned the European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

Mr. Newbrough was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, volunteered with the Meals on Wheels, served on the commodities distribution committee and was an Usher.

He retired in Feb. 1986 from the tube forming and cutting department at York International in Elyria following 30 years service. He also had worked for the General Motors Elyria Foundry, American Brake Shoe and Ridge Tool.

Mr. Newbrough was a member of the VFW Post 451, American Legion and Elyria Eagles.

He enjoyed camping, square dancing, and traveling.

Mr. Newbrough is survived by his daughter Dana L Szucs of Lorain, grandchildren Marla Figueroa, Tiffaney Gracia, Christopher Legg, Shanna Dennis, 15 great grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, sisters Inis Swisher, of Brohard, WV, Delorce Gibson, of Elizabeth, WV, brothers, Robert Newbrough, WV, Clarence Newbrough both of Brohard, WV and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Virginia E. (nee Richard) Newbrough on Dec. 17, 2006, his son Richard H Newbrough on September 3, 2016 great grandson Braeden, sisters Opal Burrows, Faye Lynch and brother Joseph Newbrough.

Friends may call on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 from 4-8 p.m., in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 10:00 am in the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 647 Reid Ave., Lorain with Rev. Jimmie Madsen, pastor of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Avon, with full military honors.
