Luther Tully, 91, U.S. Army Veteran

Photo of Luther Tully Luther "Lou" Tully, 91, of Lorain, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2016 after a long illness.

Born in Claypool, Indiana on August 20, 1925 to Claude and Lusina Dawn (nee Warner) Tully. Lou enlisted into the US Army Air Corp in 1943, and was honorably discharged in 1945 after the war, having achieved the rank of 2nd Lieutenant as a bombardier. He then moved to Tiffin, Ohio where he met his future wife Wanda and graduated in 1949 from Heidelberg College with a graduate degree in music. After marrying on August 20, 1950, Lou received his Masters Degree from Northwestern University. He then taught vocal music in the Lorain School System for 34 years, retiring in 1983.

A long time member of Faith United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 30, Lou was previously a member of the Lorain Civic Choir, the Lorain Barbershop Chorus (which he directed for 7 years), sang in a quartet known as the Spacemen, and served as the choir director for Emmanuel United Methodist Church for 20 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, feeding and watching the local wildlife.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Wanda (nee Shuff) Tully of Lorain, sons David (Cindy) of Bay View, Steve (Leslie) of West Tisbury, MA, Brad of Vermilion and Chris (Deana) of Alexandria, KY, grandchildren Foxworth, Marshall, Lauren, Madeline, Matthew, Heather, Christina, Jacob, Joesi, Kenneth, Sam, Colin and great-grandchildren Hugo, Rye, Nathan, Jaxson, Taylor, Tyler and Arianna.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Eugene and Claude, sisters Jeanette and Mary, and Bryan Troy Tully (son of David Tully).

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2016 from 3-5 p.m. in Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 West 5th Street, Lorain.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 24, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Chris LaLonde, pastor of Cornerstone United Methodist Church, officiating.

A private burial will follow.
