Ferdinand Sanchez, 61, U.S. Army Veteran

Photo of Ferdinand Sanchez Ferdinand “Freddy” Sanchez, age 61, of Lorain, passed away in Orlando, Florida on Wednesday November 2, 2016 following an extended illness.

Mr. Sanchez was born in Manhattan, New York on July 18, 1955 and had been a resident of Lorain for the past twenty-eight years; he had previously resided in Puerto Rico.

Freddy was a retired member of the United States Army; he fulfilled primary duty assignments as an Artillery Field Man during the Viet Nam War.

Mr. Sanchez was a parishioner of both St. Frances Cabrini Parish of Lorain and Sagrada Familia Parish in Cleveland. Devoted to his family, he was a gifted poet who, at the time of his passing, was also in the process of authoring a book regarding relationships with God.

In his free time he enjoyed music with a special focus on salsa, contemporary, and rock-n-roll. Additional interests included trips to Puerto Rico as well as spending time at the beach and near the ocean.

He is survived by his wife of thirty-eight years Maria (nee Velez), by his sons Fernando Sanchez residing in Puerto Rico, Jesus (Melissa) Sanchez of Parma, and daughters Lina Sanchez and Maria Sanchez both of Lorain. He also leaves grandchildren Victor and Alondra Sanchez, Jason and Shiann Brown, as well as Julian, Liani, and Alayna Sanchez. Additional survivors include his parents Fernando and Lina Sanchez, brother Mario Sanchez, and sister Elizabeth Sanchez all of Orlando.

Visitation will be Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of memorial services at 12:30 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend John C. Retar, pastor of St. Frances Cabrini Parish will officiate.
