Cheryl A. Antus, 61, Founder & President of Mrs. Claus Kitchen in Lorain
Cheryl A. “Cheri” Antus (nee Groene), 61, of Lorain, died Friday November 18, 2016 at Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake after a lengthy bout with cancer.
She was born July 4, 1955 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
Cheri graduated from Lorain High School. She worked as a secretary at State Farm Insurance for approximately 30 years. She also sold Home Interiors for many years.
Cheri was the founder and president of Mrs. Claus Kitchen in Lorain and helped start Light Up Lorain which decorated downtown Lorain in Christmas lights and decorations. Cheri was active in soliciting donations of Christmas trees and decorations, model train sets and monetary donations for these events.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township where she participated in the church youth group. She was a member of St. Anthony Curcillo and VFW Post #735 Ladies Auxiliary of Avon. She enjoyed attending “The Fest” family festival put on by the Diocese of Cleveland and spending time with her grandchildren and attending their school and sporting events.
She is survived by her children: Anna (Jason) Cockayne and Keith (Antonia) Antus, all of Lorain; grandchildren: Emmanuel, Carmelo, Kamdyn and Kaesyn; brothers: David (Lilah) Groene of Lakeside and Darrel (Kathy) Groene of Lorain and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Harry “Bud” & Ruth Groene (nee Nather) and aunt Lois Niesen.
The family will receive friends Monday November 21st from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday November 22nd at 10:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N Ridge Rd, Elyria Township. (please meet at the church). The Rev. Donald Dunson, pastor, will officiate. Cremation will follow and her ashes will be interred during a private family ceremony at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain at a later date.
