Albert L. Woodings, 91, U.S. Army Veteran

Albert L. “Woody” Woodings, 91, of Lorain, died Saturday November 19, 2016 at Mayfair Village in Columbus.

He was born July 7, 1925 in Elyria, Ohio and had resided in Lorain since 1925.

Albert graduated from Lorain High School and then served with the US Army as a corporal during World War II where he participated in multiple island invasions in the Pacific Theater. After the combat and securing the islands, he participated in the construction of numerous air bases for the Army Air Corp.

Albert worked as a welder at the Koehring Division of Thew Shovel and General Motors retiring in 1986 after 40 years. Prior to that, he was employed as a mechanic in the automotive industry and worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Ohio Engineering Company.

He was a member of Heritage Presbyterian Church in Lorain, the LaGrange Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite and the American Legion. He was a strong supporter of his lodges and participated in many of the charitable events supporting the health and welfare of children.

Al was happiest when he was in the company of his family, friends and neighbors. He enjoyed sitting on the front steps and porches of the neighborhood and discussing the life and times of his friends, family, and the world in general.

His hobby was the care, maintenance and history of the automobile. He enjoyed that hobby with his friends and neighbors, throughout his life. He attended car shows and other automobile events and always kept up with the latest news and technology from the auto industry.

Al was a kind and loving man, generous to his family and friends, and always ready with a helping hand, during good times or bad. He will be missed.

He is survived by his wife Margaret Yolanda Woodings (nee Pagacs), son Randall Alan Woodings of Dublin, Ohio, grandsons Kent and Tanner Woodings and nieces Lynn and Connie Woodings. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert J. & Caroline Woodings (nee Cheetham) and brother Earl Woodings.

The family will receive friends Sunday November 27th from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Monday November 28th at 10:00 am in the funeral chapel. The Rev. Jenni Walker-Noyes, pastor of Heritage Presbyterian Church in Amherst, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
