Josephine L. Horton, 92, Enjoyed Baking Pies, Quilting and Cross-Stitching

Josephine L. Horton, age 92 of Lorain, died Monday November 21, 2016 at Avon Oaks Nursing Center.

She was born December 1, 1923 in Lorain, and resided in Avon Lake for 36 years before moving back to Lorain in 1987.

Josephine was a WW2 Navy Veteran, and belonged to St. Peter Parish in Lorain. While living in Avon Lake she was a parishioner and very active in St. Joseph Church, and was President of the Women’s Guild.

She enjoyed baking pies, quilting, and cross-stitching, and won several awards at the Lorain County Fair for her cross-stitching. Josephine also belonged to a pinochle club for more than 50 years.

She is survived by a daughter Judith (Bill) Kellner of Avon Lake, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, and sisters Frances Rottman, and Bea Horton.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leo A. Horton in 1996, son David Leo Horton in 2013, daughter Mary Jo Horton in 2015, sisters Anna Foster, Mary Steiner, and Agnes Tomazin, and an infant brother, and parents Joseph and Anna Resek.

Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 PM in Reichlin-Cooley Funeral Home, 2920 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday Nov. 26, 2016 beginning with prayers at 9 AM in the Funeral Home, followed by Mass at 9:30 AM in St. Peter Parish. Fr. Craig Hovanec will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions can be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or St. Joseph Church Homeless Shelter in Lorain.
