Jean A. Balogh, 93

She had been a resident of Amherst Manor Assisted Living. A native of Lorain, Jean was born on May 30, 1923 and moved to Amherst in 1951. She had been employed as an associate at Smith and Gerhart Department Store as well as a cashier at the Lorain and Grove Theaters.
Jean was a parishioner of the former Ss. Cyril & Methodius Slovenian Catholic Church in Lorain where she was a member of the Ladies Guild. She was active with both A.F.U. Slovenian Lodge # 6 and A.M.L.A. Lodge # 60 and was recognized as 1984 Mother of the Year by Slovenian Union Lodge # 40. Jean was attending St. France Xavier Cabrini Parish at the time of her passing.
She is survived by her sons George F. Balogh (Judy) and James L. Balogh (Jane), granddaughter Becky Gates (Jason), and grandsons Kevin (Stephanie), Gregory (Susie), Jeffrey (Melissa), and David. She also leaves great grandchildren Alex, Josh, Andrew, Sophia, Natalie, and Jonathan.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years George Kelly Balogh who passed away on October 15, 2006, by her parents Frank and Johana (nee Mavec) Znidarsic, and by her sister Dorothy Reising Woodings.
The Balogh family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of both Amherst Manor and Mercy New Life Hospice for the care and support they provided over the span of the past eighteen months.
Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. in St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish, 2143 Homewood Drive. The Reverend John C. Retar, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
The family encourages memorial contributions to either Mercy New Life Hospice or to St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish.
