Ruth L. Carr, 90, Loved Cooking for Her Family

Photo of Ruth L. Carr Our beautiful, kind Ruth L. Carr passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday January 4th, 2017 while a resident of Mercy New Life Hospice.

Born in Louisville, Kentucky on October 2, 1926 to Paul and Stella (nee Zajkowski) Rinkowski, Ruth had been a resident of Lorain since childhood.

A parishioner of Nativity BVM Catholic Church, she was formerly employed by Crystal Clear Cleaners as well as Sutter’s Restaurant. She had also worked as a clerk at Hanko’s Meat Market.

Ruth loved cooking for her family, enjoyed collecting cook books, and welcomed every opportunity to share her recipes with those she encountered.

She enjoyed playing cards, playing bingo, and going on casino trips with her family and friends. Ruth was an avid life-long fan of the Cleveland Indians. In addition, she enjoyed league bowling and took great pleasure in watching her vegetable garden grow.

He beautiful blue eyes, giving heart, and loving smile would light up a room wherever she went. Her bond with family and friends was undeniable and all in her presence were considered ‘family”. She will be greatly missed and remembered by all who knew her.

Ruth is survived by her daughters Paulette Woolford and Calleen Hanko (partner Douglas J. Doman) both of Lorain. She also leaves grandchildren Ann Rogers (Mark), Tony Koler, Christine Koler, Daniel Koler (Courtney), Dana Woolford (Eric), Kim Hanko-Dale (Jonathan), Amanda Hanko-Wilt (Jeremy), Erica Hanko, Lindsey Doman (Chris), and Aaron Doman, along with five great grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Calvin in 1999, by her daughter Margaret Koler also in 1999, by her parents Paul and Stella (Zajkowski) Rinkowski, and by her sister Laura Molnar.

Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in Nativity BVM Catholic Church, 1454 Lexington Avenue. Reverend Robert Glepko, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park – Amherst Township.
