Nicholas J. Ksenich, 82, U.S. Army Veteran

Photo of Nicholas J. Ksenich Nicholas J. Ksenich, 82, of Lorain, died unexpectedly on Sunday January 8, 2017 at his home.

He was born July 16, 1934 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain resident.

Nick graduated from St. Mary High School in Lorain in 1952 where he served as class president. He attended John Carroll University in University Heights and then served with the US Army where he was stationed in France.

Nick worked as a Production Foreman at BF Goodrich in Avon Lake for 33 years before retiring. After his retirement, he worked for 5th Avenue Florist in Lorain as a delivery person for four years.

He was a member of the former Ss Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Lorain and the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain. He attended St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain.

Nick was a long-time season ticket holder of the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Orchestra. He was very strong in his faith, very patriotic and proud of his military service, loved his family (especially his grandsons) and many close friends. He enjoyed traveling and playing billiards and became known to his fellow pool players as “Nick the Stick”.

He is survived by his son Dr. Nicholas J. Ksenich (Maryann) of Avon, grandsons: Nicholas J. Ksenich of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Ryan M. Ksenich of Birmingham, Alabama; sister Patricia Garrett of Lorain, brother Joseph A. Ksenich (Donna) of Lorain; sisters-in- law: Constance Blaeser of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jane Ciula of Tucson, Arizona and Agnes Ciula of Sun City, Arizona and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years Lucille Ksenich (nee Ciula) on February 20, 1992, parents Nicholas and Elizabeth Ksenich (nee Banaski) and sisters: Rosemary Ksenich, Mary Ellen Zilko and Betty Popio.

The family will receive friends Friday January 13th from 2-4, 6-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo- Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain where the rosary will be recited Friday at 3:45 pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday January 14 th at 10:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Edward Smith, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
