Joseph Skrepich, 97, U.S. Army Veteran

Photo of Joseph Skrepich Joseph Skrepich, 97, of Lorain, died Tuesday January 10, 2017 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain.

He was born December 13, 1919 in Czechoslovakia and had resided in Lorain since childhood.

Joe graduated from Lorain High School and served with the US Army during World War II. He worked at US Steel in Lorain in Production Planning retiring in 1982.

Joe was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in Lorain where he served as an usher. He was also a member of the Greek Catholic Union # 77 and served as local secretary for many years. He was a member of the American Slovak Club and AMVETS #47. Joseph was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing golf, bowling and traveling.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years Margaret Skrepich (nee Stanko), daughter Sandra Farnsworth (Gary) of Amherst, granddaughters: Tania Schoewe (Edward) of Norwalk and Sarah Skrepich of Amherst; 9 great grandchildren, brother Ray Lawrence of Callifornia and daughter-in-law Marilyn Skrepich (nee Wells) of Amherst. He was preceded in death by his son J. Dale Skrepich in 2006, parents Joseph and Elizabeth Skrepich (nee Lorenz) and sister Elizabeth Farrow.

The family will receive friends Sunday January 15th from 3:00-7:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain where the Parastas Service will be held Sunday at 6:30 pm. Panachida Prayer Services will be held Monday January 16th at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the Divine Liturgy at 10:00 am at St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church, 2711 W. 40th St, Lorain. The Very Rev. Nicholas Rachford, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
