Doris C. Smith, 100, Enjoyhed Knitting & Crocheting

Mrs. Smith was born in Mayville, Wisconsin on June 30, 1916, the daughter of the late Burr and Jennie Elizabeth (nee Shipley) Collyer. She and her family moved to Lorain in 1918.
She was a graduate of Lorain High School, Class of 1934 and was a member of the National Honor Society. She also graduated from the White Cross School of Beauty Culture in 1935 and the Oberlin School of Commerce in 1936.
Mrs. Smith worked as a bindery clerk at Lorain Printing Co. in Lorain from 1966-1982. Following that, she managed and serviced postage stamp machines in Lorain and the surrounding area.
She was a charter member of the Art League of Lorain County. She enjoyed knitting & crocheting. She especially enjoyed knitting children's caps and mittens for charities at Christmastime. She was a talented artist, painting with watercolors, oils and on ceramic pieces.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her sons, Gilbert D. (Jan) Smith, of Vermilion, Philip T. Smith, of Columbia, MD, grandchildren, Sean T. (Aynsley) and Shannon L. Smith and great grandson, Robin T. Smith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford T. Smith, grandson, Steven E. Smith and brother, Dwight B. Collyer.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 from 10:00 am until a Celebration of Her Life at 11:00 am in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W 5th Strreet, Lorain, Ohio, 44052.
She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Neighborhood Alliance Association, 457 Griswold Rd, Elyria, OH 44035.
