John C. Kurjan, 90, U.S. Navy Veteran

He was born May 20, 1926 in Lorain and had been a Lorain area resident his entire life.
John served in the US Navy during World War II. He worked at Thew Shovel and Terex Corporation as an assembler. He also owned and operated J & C Lounge in South Lorain for many years. He was also a past president of the Croatian Club for several years. He was an avid golfer and bowler.
He will be dearly missed by his children John (Paulette) Kurjan and Ruth (William) Bistak, brother Steve (Fran) Kurjan, sister Mildred (John) Bereznay and dear friend Lu Degenaro. He was preceded in death by his wife Carol Kurjan (nee Dolyk), parents Steve and Mary Kurjan (nee Ostrgnaj) and sisters Theresa Skoda, Katherine Velleff and Ann Yuricich.
The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to Mercy New Life Hospice for the wonderful care given to their dad during his final days. They would also like to thank Daniel and Carmen Ivan of White Orchid Adult Care Home and for the care given to their dad.
The family will receive friends Friday January 20th from 3:00-7:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Saturday January 21st at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 2143 Homewood Dr, Lorain. The Rev. John Retar, pastor, will officiate. Cremation will follow and a private family interment will be held at a later date at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
