Evelyn J. Alten, 90, Had a Passion for Cooking

Photo of Evelyn J. Alten Evelyn J. Alten (née Lasco), 90, of Sheffield Lake, died peacefully in her sleep Friday, January 27, 2017 of a lengthy illness.

She was born July 3, 1926 in Lorain to Vera and Ben Lasco. Evelyn graduated from Lorain High School in 1944. She worked as a waitress at French Creek Tavern, Avon, in the 1950’s.

Evelyn was a member St. Thomas Catholic Church, Sheffield Lake. She was member of the church’s Ladies Guild. Evelyn and her husband George enjoyed traveling in their motor home with the Buckeye Travelers and Good Sam travel clubs. Evelyn’s passion was cooking. She looked forward to spending time with her family every Sunday.

She will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 70 years in May, George F. Alten; daughters Barbara (Tom) Smith of Vermilion, Nancy (Tom) Falish, Denise (David) Lococo and Andrea Alten all of Sheffield Lake; grandchildren Hallie (Steve) Petee, Matthew (Bonnie) Falish, Tim (Heather) Smith, Lisa Jackson and Tony (Nicole) Lococo; 12 great grandchildren; sisters Lois Koepp and Carol Sellers and a brother Jerry (Dottie) Lasco.

Other than her parents Evelyn was preceded in death by her great grandchildren Anthony and Alexis.

Evelyn’s family thanks the Hospice of the Western Reserve for their caring and kindness.

Her family will receive friends Sunday, January 29 from 3 to 7 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain. Where her funeral will be Monday in the funeral home at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
