Janet Balzer, 86, Enjoyed Reading, Knitting and Solving Crossword Puzzles

Janet Balzer, (nee Jones) age 86, of Lorain, passed away at her home on Saturday January 28, 2017 while under the care of Mercy New Life Hospice.

Born in Holloway, Ohio on July 30, 1930, Janet had been a resident of Lorain for most of her life; she was a 1947 graduate of Lorain High School.

Mrs. Balzer was employed as a buyer and consultant for Ted Jacobs Stores. She retired in 1975 following a career that spanned more than a decade with the clothier. She had formerly worked as a librarian at St. John Parochial School as well serving as a volunteer at the French Creek Nature Center.

A member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Elyria, she enjoyed reading, knitting, and solving crossword puzzles in her free time.

She is survived by sons Timothy (Jennifer) Balzer of Nova, Ohio, Theodore (Georgia) Balzer of Amherst, and Mark Balzer of Lorain, along with daughters Sandra White of Lorain and Linda (Robert) Stack of Vermilion. In addition, she leaves ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, sisters Nancy (Eugene) Beard of Westport, Connecticut, Emily Markutsa and Carol Avery both of Lorain, and many nieces and nephews.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband Jack Balzer in 1961, her parent James and Gertrude (nee Bethel) Jones, and sister Loretta Rosenbush.

Funeral services will be Thursday February 2nd at 11:00 a.m. in Cornerstone United Methodist Church- 2949 West River Road, Elyria. Reverend Chris Lalonde, pastor of the church will officiate.

Memorial contributions are encouraged to either Cornerstone United Methodist Church – 2949 West River Rd., Elyria, OH 44035 or to Mercy New Life Hospice – 3500 Kolbe Rd., Lorain, Oh 44053.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, Lorain.
