Mary Jean Smith, 80, Enjoyed Boating, Reading & Spending Time with Family

She was born March 13, 1936 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain resident.
Mary Jean graduated from Lorain High School with the 1953 B class and attended the Oberlin School of Commerce studying Business Administration. She also attended Lorain County Community College where she took business classes.
Mary Jean first worked at US Steel in Lorain as a secretary and then at Meyer Goldberg in Lorain for 20 years where she was the Head Cashier. When the store closed, she went to work at Invacare in Elyria as an Administrative Secretary for 15 years retiring in 2001.
She was an active member of over 50 years at St. Peter Parish in Lorain. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector, served on the church festival planning committee and was a member of the St. Peter Rosary Society.
Mary Jean was an active volunteer at Mercy New Life Hospice in Lorain and the Cleveland Clinic Lorain Family Health Center. She enjoyed boating, reading and spending time with her family. Every holiday, she hosted the family dinner. She also served as a Notary Public.
She is survived by her daughter and caregiver Diane (Jim) Dziak of Lorain, daughter Barbara Tully of Georgia, grandchildren: Josh (Janet) Dziak, Jackie (Ron) Russell, Jessica Dziak, Heather Tully, Matthew (Vanessa) Tully; 7 great grandchildren and lifelong friend Josie Campo Swartz. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Gerald Jerry Smith on April 29, 2005, parents Adam and Regina Lepkowski (Pilowski) and brothers Stanley, Ted, George, Frank and John Lepkowski.
The family will receive friends Thursday February 2nd from 11:00 am until noon at St. Peter Parish, 3501 Oberlin Ave, Lorain. The mass of Christian Burial will begin at noon in the church. The Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor, will preside.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain.
