Ronald A. Loterbaugh, 80, U.S. Marine Corps Veteran

The son of the late Chester and Luema (nee Bright) Loterbaugh, he was born in Zanesville, Ohio on June 28, 1936; Pete had been a resident of Lorain since 1941.

He was a 1955 graduate of Clearview High School and subsequently enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He fulfilled a three-year duty assignments as a Corporal attached to the 11th Infantry Battalion and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal. He also completed two years of service with the Marine Corps Reserve. Pete was a member of Elmer Johnson Post # 118 of the American Legion as well as VFW Post 1662 and proudly served as a member of the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.

Upon his return from the military, he joined the Ford Motor Company where he was employed as a stock checker at the Lorain Assembly Plant. He retired from the automaker in 1992 following a career that spanned thirty-two years. Mr. Loterbaugh was also a member and former officer with United Autoworkers’ Local 425.

Pete enjoyed playing baseball and softball and attended several state tournaments during his playing days. He was also an avid bowler and golfer who enjoyed participating in a variety of area leagues as well as competing against his closets friends. In addition, he dearly loved to attend his grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s sporting events and school activities.

A member and active volunteer of the Great Lakes Church in Amherst, Pete was also a member of Amherst Eagles Aerie 1442.

He is survived by his wife and loving partner of fifty years E. June (nee Fox), and daughters Pam. A. (Jim) Bucci of Lorain, and Ronda J. (Don) Bullins of Elyria. Additional survivors include his sister-in-law Janet Loterbaugh, brother-in-law Ben Bradner, along with sixteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his son Kenneth, brother Don, and sisters Helen, Jean, Rose, and Twyla.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will take place in the funeral chapel at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday with Reverend Karson Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park where military honors will be conducted by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.
