Henry L. Baxter Sr., 84, U.S. Army Veteran

Hank was born May 1, 1933 in New Castle, Pennsylvania and was a resident of Lorain from 1964-2007. He moved to Sherrodsville, Ohio in 2007 and then to Carrollton where he lived from 2009-2016 before moving to Texas to live with his son Leroy.
Hank served with the US Army during the Korean War.
He worked at American Shipbuilding in Lorain and then at US Steel in Lorain retiring in 1995. For nearly 20 years, Hank served as a Lorain County Sheriff Auxiliary Officer.
Hank was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain where he served on the military honor guard. He volunteered as a Cub Scout Master with Pack #329. He enjoyed hunting and making model airplanes.
He is survived by his son Henry Leroy Baxter, Jr (Callie) of Harker Heights, Texas; daughter Barbara Ann Polen (Joe) of New Philadelphia; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter and sisters: Lottie Orras of New Castle, Pennsylvania and Patty Maddox of Warren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years Vivian A. Baxter (nee Hesidenz), daughter Betty June Minteer, father Allen L. Baxter, mother Besse Baxter-McCollums (nee Shaner) and stepfather Calvin McCollums.
The family will receive friends Thursday May 25th from 2-4, 6-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Friday May 26th at 1:00 pm in the funeral chapel. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township where DAV Chapter #20 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
