Fred Gonzales, 87, U.S. Army Veteran

Photo of Fred Gonzales Fred “Pops” Gonzales, 87, of Lorain, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, June 24, 2017 in Holy Family Hospice, Parma following a battle with cancer.

He was born January 30, 1930 in Lorain to Jesus and Teresa (née Moreno) Gonzales. Fred graduated from Lorain High School in 1948. After graduation he joined the U. S. Army earning 3 campaign stars during the Korean Conflict.

Fred retired U. S. Steel as Wireman. He was a member of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish, Lorain. He spoke fluent Japanese and Spanish. He was a member of the United Steel Workers Local 1104 Lorain.

He will be deeply missed son Fred (Joann) Gonzales of Lorain; daughters Marian (Ken) Smith of Amarillo, Texas, Veronica (Dave) Michalski of Lorain, Teresa (Greg) Ridgeway and Rose Stotzer both of Dayton; brothers Ramon and Art Gonzalez; sisters Theresa Bodjo and Mary Jones; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren.

Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years Rose Marie (née Orozco) Gonzales in 2002; son Mark Gonzales in 2007; brother Jesse, Manuel, Jose, Ignatius Gonzalez and a sister Ysaura ”Chava” Ybarra.

Friends are invited to a Memorial Mass, Wednesday, June 28 10:30 AM in St. Frances Cabrini Parish, Homewood Drive and Grove Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Father John C. Retar, Pastor will officiate.

His family suggests memorial contributions to Mother Cabrini's Cupboard. 2143 Homewood Dr. Lorain, Ohio 44055.
