Robert R. Sorino Sr., 84, U.S. Army Veteran

Photo of Robert R. Sorino Sr. Robert R. Sorino Sr., “Bob”, age 84, of Lorain, completed his earthly journey surrounded by his family on June 24, 2017 after an illness of two months.

He was born in Lorain February 7, 1933 and spent his youth as a resident of Sheffield Township, and was a 1951 graduate of Clearview High School. He became a resident of Lorain in 1955, where he remained until his passing.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953 where he served a two-year assignment with Med. Co. 325 82nd Airborne during the Korean War. He received the Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal.

In April of 1952, he began a career of 42 years with the former Timms Spring Company, based in Elyria, serving equal time in production and later as a supervisor. In his retirement years, he worked in the Maintenance Dept. at May Dept. Stores in Sheffield Township, and then as a jack-of-all trades at the former Hearthstone Nursing Home in Lorain. He would often be seen driving the residents to their appointments or for a ride by their old neighborhood.

Bob was a member of the Italian American Veterans Post #1 in Lorain. He was a league bowler, enjoyed fishing, games of chance, sunsets, riding in his convertible, music – especially Englebert Humperdink, and he could repair anything. He enjoyed watching Cleveland sports teams and had been attending Clearview High School athletic events for over 50 years.

He celebrated and enjoyed each day, showing us love, service, generosity, and compassion. His greatest enjoyment and legacy was the love he felt for his family, especially his grandchildren, and his friends and acquaintances. He was a friend to all who knew him and was happiest when he was helping someone. He will forever be remembered for his kindness, positive attitude, and perseverance through all he endured.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter, Linda Buckosh of Lorain, granddaughter Lauren (Michael) Phillips of Vermilion, grandson Jordan (Amanda Sandoval) Buckosh of Lorain, loving companion Dolores Bansek of Lorain, and former son-in-law, Michael Buckosh of Amherst. He was great-grandpa to Anastyn Buckosh and Papa to Savannah Sandoval. He is also survived by his sisters, Rosemarie (Larry) Oldfield of Elyria and Jacqueline “Jackie” Pintur of Amherst, sister-in-law Virginia Ramirez of Annapolis, MD, a large extended family, and his beloved canine companion of 7 years, Sammy.

Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years, Carlene (nee Ramirez) in 2000, son Robert Sorino Jr. in 1987, parents Anthony Sr. and Marietta (nee Calabrese) Sorino, stepmother, Mary (nee Caputo) Sorino, brother Anthony Sorino Jr. and wife Beatrice, and brothers-in-law Steve Pintur and Ray Ramirez.
