Joseph E. Veroni, 66, U.S. Air Force Veteran

He was born in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, on July 11, 1951 to his loving parents, John and Florence Veroni.
Joe graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1969 and he was a Varsity tennis player. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era, and was honorably discharged in 1973. Joe continued his education and graduated from San Diego State University. He enjoyed a long career with MetoKote where he worked for 33 years. He was the local reporter for his company newspaper, MetoKote News, and a member of the Safety Committee. Joe was a longtime member of St. Anthony of Padua in Lorain. He ran in numerous races, including 4 marathons. Joe was an avid sports fan, especially Cleveland sports teams. His knowledge of sports and music trivia was exceptional. Joe was fond of animals, especially dogs, and his foster dog, Max.
He is survived by his loving mother, Florence Veroni; siblings, Linda Mathewson, Cathy (John) Sekletar, Mike (Patti) Veroni, Tom (Carol) Veroni, Terese Veroni, Tony Veroni, and Johnna (Tom) Lyman; numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and faithful friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Jake Veroni; and many loving family members.
Joe’s family would like to thank the staff of the Cleveland Clinic Emergency Room in Avon, Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute in Cleveland, Main Street Care Center in Avon Lake and Sprenger Hospice for their compassionate care of Joe and his family.
The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Sunday, July 16, 2017 from 2:00 PM until time of closing prayers at 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, July 17, 2017 (MEET AT CHURCH ON MONDAY), at St. Anthony of Padua, 1305 East Erie Avenue, Lorain, Rev. Edward J. Smith, Pastor, officiating, where military honors will be performed by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard. Private Christian entombment services will be held at a later date at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon, OH. Memorial donations may be made in Joe’s memory to a charity of donor’s choice.
