Genevie H. Poplar, 86, Enjoyed Participating in Sports and Traveling

Genevie H. “Jean” Poplar (nee Nowakowski), 86, died Tuesday July 18, 2017 at Washington Oakes Retirement Community in Everett, Washington.

She was born August 2, 1930 in Lorain to Joseph and Minnie Nowakowski (nee Mizerowski). A graduate of the Lorain High School class of 1947B, Jean worked in the accounting department of Fruehauf Trailer Co. in Avon Lake and attended Lorain Institute of Cosmetology and Lorain Business College.

She married Benjamin Poplar Aug. 26, 1950. Jean enjoyed participating in sports, especially tennis and roller skating, ballroom dancing and traveling with her husband in their RV. She is a past member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and St. Peter Parish in Lorain.

Jean is survived by her sons Ben of Glendora, CA. Mark of Marysville, WA and granddaughters Melissa and Kimberly. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Benjamin, parents Minnie and Joseph, brother Joseph and sister Marjorie Bratovich.

Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday August 1st at 2:00 pm at Calvary Cemetery, 555 N. Ridge Rd in Lorain. The Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor of St. Peter Parish, will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5555 Frantz Rd, Dublin, OH. 43017.
