Aurea Rivera, 97, Compassionate and Loving Spirit

She was born November 10, 1919 in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico to Ramon Colon and Carmela Ortiz. Lula came to Lorain August 1960 and was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. Lula was the ultimate hostess where her home knew no strangers. Anyone who walked through her door was considered family and welcomed with a warm hug. A compassionate and loving spirit, Lula loved fresh flowers and especially tending to her "rositas." Watching an Indians game or spending time with Lula on her inviting porch are treasured moments that will be missed by many.

Lula is survived by her adoring children, sons Samuel (Carmen) Rivera and Victor (Nancy) Rivera both of Lorain; daughters Carmen (Joe) Gonzalez and Nancy (Louis) Sanchez of Amherst; sister Celia Colon of Orlando, Florida; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Lula was preceded in death by her beloved husband Faustino "Titi" in 2004, brothers Arturo, Ramon, Librado and Ramoncito and her sisters Carmela Colon and Petra Rivera.

Her friends may call Tuesday, August 1 from 4 to 8 PM at Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain. Friends may also call Wednesday from 8:30 AM until mass to celebrate Lula’s life at 9:30 AM in Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Father William A. Thaden, Pastor will be celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

The family suggest that memorial contributions be made to the Sacred Heart Memorial Fund, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain Ohio 44055.
