Irene Engel, 87, Enjoyed Cooking & Baking

Photo of Irene Engel Irene Engel, (nee Fetcenko), age 87, of Elyria Township, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday August 3, 2017.

Born in Troy, Pennsylvania on March 29, 1930, Irene was a graduate of Morrisdale High School. She moved to Ohio in 1952 and was a resident of the Elyria Y.W.C.A. for two years prior to meeting her husband.

She was formerly employed as a production assistant for the Worthington Ball, Company, the Victor Golf Company, and Majestic Molding Company all located in Elyria.

Irene was a loyal and devoted parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township and was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society there.

She enjoyed a multitude of interests including cooking, baking, and working with puzzles. She also enjoyed reading and possessed a special fondness for biographies. In addition, she was privileged to travel extensively and, along with her husband, was able to visit every state with the exception of Hawaii.

Survivors include her husband of sixty-three years John, and daughters Cynthia Hurley (Robert) of Napa, California, Connie Fisher (Sandy) of Boulder, Colorado, and Sharon Crawford (Clark) of Brownhelm Township. She also leaves grandchildren Natalie Hurley, Seamus Hurley, and Max Fisher, along with sister Mary Swansegar of Phillipsburg, Pennsylvania, as well as brothers Raymond Fetcenko (Barbara) of Medina, and Lawrence Fetcenko (Liese) of North Ridgeville.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents George and Mary (nee Werba) Fetcenko, brothers George Mitchell, and Thomas Fetcenko, and sisters Dorothy Wade, Pauline Verost, and Margaret Salvatore.

Friends may call Sunday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 North Ridge Road, Elyria Township. The Reverend Donald Dunson, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Lorain.

The family encourages memorial contributions to either St. Vincent Paul Catholic Church or to the St. Vincent de Paul Altar & Rosary Society.
