Donald Joseph Karpinski, 65, Avid Golfer

He was born October 21, 1951 and was a lifelong resident of Lorain, Ohio.

Donald (“Doc” or “Karp”) is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marlene C. Karpinski (nee Carvalho), and father, Donald W. Karpinski. He was a loving and dedicated father to Andrea K. Smiley (husband Grant) and Aryn C. Kosmidis (husband Alexander). “Grandpa Doc” adored his two grandsons, Arthur Joseph and Everett Michael Smiley. He was a loyal brother to David (wife Janet). Donald was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy S. Karpinski (nee Mahnic). He was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Maxine M. Carvalho (nee Moura), and father-in-law, Joseph M. Carvalho, with whom he was very close. Donald was a cherished and fun-loving cousin, uncle, friend, and “jester” to all.

Donald, a “Buckeye” for life, graduated from Admiral King High School in 1969, the University of Cincinnati in 1973, and The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1976. Upon graduation, Doc began his dental practice in Lorain, which has existed for more than forty years. Karp was actively involved in the Lorain community that he so loved. Additionally, he was an avid golfer, wholehearted coach and mentor, and of course, an eternal comedian. Doc will always be remembered for his unwavering pride in his daughters and their families, his desire to genuinely care for and support his patients, and his quest to encourage guttural laughs from friends, acquaintances, and strangers. Thank you to all his family and friends for their love and support throughout his life.

Donald's immediate family will receive visitors in St. Peter Parish - 3501 Oberlin Avenue on Friday August 11th beginning at 9:30 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will commence at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Craig M. Hovanec, pastor of St. Peter Parish and Reverend Robert J. Glepko, pastor of Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church concelebrating. Entombment will immediately follow in the Our Lady of Guadalupe Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery. Karp was a lifelong fan of the Tribe, the Cavs, the Browns, and of course, the “Buckeyes.” The immediate family encourages you to wear Scarlet and Grey or Ohio State apparel to the Mass and entombment in celebration of Doc’s life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to the St. Peter Parish Athletic Association, 3655 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, OH 44053 as he was a treasured coach to many.
