Ethel E. McCartney, 92, Enjoyed Cooking, Baking and Gardening

Photo of Ethel E. McCartney Ethel E. McCartney, (nee Olah), age 92, of Elyria, passed away at her home on Friday August 11, 2017 following an illness of one year.

Ethel was born in Elyria (the former Stop # 7) on February 6, 1925. A graduate of Clearview High School, she lived in Elyria, Avon, and Amherst prior to returning to Elyria in 1997 following the death of her husband, William.

Ethel was formerly employed as a production assistant at General Industries in Elyria.

She enjoyed a multitude of interests including cooking, baking, gardening, and growing flowers. She also liked working on her brother’s farm in Elyria, as well as playing cards, solving word and jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Ethel is survived by sons Williams A. (Vickie) and Dennis J. both residing in Elyria along with Gregory M. of Sheffield Lake. She also leaves five grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and sister Stella Feskanin of Lagrange.

Mrs. McCartney was preceded in death by her husband William in 1996, by her parents Julius and Meri Irma (nee Palczer) Olah, sisters Goldie Aikens, Magdalene Perry, and Otilla Meyers, brothers Julius “Pundy”, John, Carl, Nicholas, and daughter-in-law Marlene McCartney.

Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday August 21st in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
