Katherine A. Kobasic, 95, Known for Her Keen Sense of Humor
Katherine A. Kobasic, (nee Lombardi), age 95, passed away at Ames Family Hospice on the morning of Wednesday August 16, 2017 following a brief illness.
Born in Chicago on July 23, 1922, she moved to Ohio in 1946 and had been a long-time resident of Lorain.
While residing in Chicago Katherine was employed by Rotary International.
She was a parishioner of St. Peter Parish and formerly attended St. Vitus Croatian Catholic Church prior to its closing. She had also been a member of the St. Vitus Ladies Guild.
Katherine served as a volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital for a number of years spending many of her service hours working in the gift shop there. Dedicated to her family and known for her keen sense of humor, she enjoyed reading, cooking, baking, and flower gardening in her free time.
Survivors include her children Sister Pamela Kobasic, I.H.M. residing in Monroe, Michigan, David A. Kobasic (Kathleen) of Brunswick, Christine Backo (Richard) of Bedford, Edward T. Kobasic, Jr. (Beth) of Collierville, Tennessee, Richard A. Kobasic (Jeanette) of Amherst, Robert Kobasic (Deborah) of Olmsted Falls, and Dena M. Kobasic of Brecksville. Katherine also leaves nineteen grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edward T. Kobasic, Sr. in 2014, son Martin Kobasic in 2013, parents Pasquale and Rose (nee DiPirro) Lombardi, brothers Andrew, Peter, and Vincent “Jimmy” Lombardi, along with sisters Evelyn Hollendonner, Anna Calabrese, Beatrice Lombardi, and Vera Zambreno.
Visitation will be Saturday August 19th from 9:30 until the time of closing prayers at 10:30 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Peter Parish – 3501 Oberlin Avenue, with Reverend Craig Hovanec, pastor of the parish presiding. Cremation will follow with the burial of her cremated remains taking place privately in Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
