Luis Fernando Caldera, 60, Former Golden Glove Champion

Photo of Luis Fernando Caldera Luis Fernando “Lili” Caldera, Sr., 60, of Lorain went to be with our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at New Life Hospice, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.

He was born on February 10, 1957 in Coamo, Puerto Rico. He came to live in Lorain at the age of 13 and has lived here since.

Luis graduated from Lorain Southview High School in 1975. He was formerly a golden glove champion and developed a deep passion for the sport of boxing. He excelled in the sport and received many awards. After his boxing career, he became a trainer helping young boxers in Lorain.

Luis enjoyed riding bikes, walking around Oakwood Park and Days Dam. He also loved listening to Spanish music, spending time with his granddaughters and caring for his mother. He was a member of Principe De Paz Lutheran Church until it closed.

Luis is survived by his mother Maria "Ole" Gonzalez, his son Luis (Allison) Caldera, Jr.; daughters Melissa (Jessica) Caldera, and Marissa Otero; brothers Daniel (Margie) Calderas, Adolfo (Diana) Caldera and nine half-brothers; 4 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Gonzalo Caldera.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 20 from 4 to 8 PM at Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, where funeral services will be Monday at 10 AM. Rev. Crucita Marrero, Pastor of Misión Cristiana EI Faro Disciples of Christ Ministries, Lorain will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Luis Caldera Jr. to offset burial expenses.
