Shane S. Smarr, 54, Enjoyed Spending Time with His Granddaughters
Shane S. Smarr, 54, of Lorain, died unexpectedly on Sunday August 27, 2017 in the emergency room at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain while surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born December 22, 1962 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
Shane graduated from Lorain High School and served as a Red Cross volunteer during his high school years. He then served with the US Air Force for 4 years having been stationed in Plattsburgh, New York.
Shane was currently working as the maintenance person at St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church in Lorain where he worked since 2013. Prior to that, he had worked a combined 20 years as a Corrections Officer for the city of Lorain Police Department and city of Elyria Police Department. He had also worked for Eastern Airlines on the ground crew.
He enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters and camping.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years Julie Smarr (nee Jacobs), sons: Matthew Smarr and Patrick Smarr, both of Lorain; granddaughters: Annie, Sarah & Leah Smarr; mother Barbara L. Smarr (nee Peercy) of Lorain, sister Shawn M. Jones of Lorain and brothers: Darren M. Smarr (Karin) of Lorain and Steven D. Smarr (Denise) of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his father Raymond P. Smarr in 1992.
The family will receive friends Wednesday August 30th from 4:00-8:00 pm at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church, 2143 Homewood Dr, Lorain. Additional viewing will be Thursday August 31st from 10:00 am until the time of the mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in the church. The Rev. John Retar, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where AMVETS Post #32 of Elyria will conduct military honors.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain.
