Joan C. Johnson, 89, Loving and Devoted Mother and Grandmother
Joan C. Johnson, (nee Kukis a.k.a. Montagnese), age 89, of Sheffield Township, passed away peacefully at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph on the morning of Wednesday August 30, 2017.
Born in Sheffield Township on September 29, 1927, Joan had been a resident of greater Lorain for her entire life; she was a 1942 graduate of Clearview High School.
She began her working career as a loan teller for the Household Finance Company. She later obtained her Ohio Real Estate License and began a successful career as a realtor affiliated with Hunker Real Estate and it successor, Landlord Leasing. In addition, Joan owned a number of homes in the area that she rented independently. She was a long-time member of the Sheffield Township Zoning Board.
Joan was regarded as a loving and devoted mother and grandmother and was well known for her generosity to all. Her family provided her with the greatest joy in her life.
She attended St. Peter Parish and was a member of the choir there for more than thirty years. She also enjoyed entertaining and was always willing to open her home to family and friends. In her free time she enjoyed playing cards.
Survivors include her sons Daniel F. Montagnese (Dana) of Phoenix, Arizona, Paul V. Montagnese (Tiffany) of Elloree, South Carolina, and Ronald J. Montagnese (Bonnie) residing in Amherst. She also leaves eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and her sister Marian Gow of Sheffield Township.
Joan was preceded in death by her father John Kukis and mother Helen MacKenzie (nee Elgart).
Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Peter Parish 3501 Oberlin Avenue with the Reverend Gerald Keller presiding. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery Lorain.
