Dawn M. Sklarek, 49, Enjoyed Bowling and Camping

Photo of Dawn M. Sklarek Dawn M. Sklarek (nee Glavan), 49, of Amherst, died Thursday September 7, 2017 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain after a long illness with Lupus.

She was born July 2, 1968 in Amherst, grew up in Lorain and resided in Amherst most of her life.

Dawn graduated from Marion Steele High School in Amherst where she played flute in the concert band and trumpet in the marching band.

She worked as a receptionist in the office of Dr. Scott Iliff DDS in Amherst for over 20 years.

Dawn enjoyed bowling and served as league secretary of the Tuesday night mixed league at Rebman Recreation in Lorain for many years as well as captain of her team. She enjoyed camping with her boyfriend Jeff Uehlein.

Dawn was a member of the former Ss Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Lorain and a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain.

She is survived by her daughter Haley Sklarek of Amherst; parents Joseph F. & Pamela F. Glavan (nee Pintur) of Amherst, brother Michael Glavan of Oberlin, niece Justina Smith (Damion) and great niece Aurora Smith. She was preceded in death by her companion of 10 years Jeff Uehlein, maternal grandparents Clyde & Phyllis Lantz and paternal grandparents Joseph & Amelia “Molly” Glavan.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain, especially her wound nurse Gia, for the care they gave Dawn during her stay there.

The family will receive friends Monday September 11th from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Tuesday September 12th at 10:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church, 2143 Homewood Dr, Lorain. The Rev. John Retar, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
