Ann N. Maltarich, 93, U.S. Navy Veteran

Born in East Liverpool, Ohio on December 31, 1923, Ann had been a resident of Lorain County for the past fifty years; she had previously resided in Eastlake.

She was a veteran of the United States Navy where she fulfilled duty assignments as a Yeoman 2nd Class attached to the Naval Administrative Command Center in Great Lakes, Illinois during World War II. Ann was the recipient of the American Campaign Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon. She was both a Charter and Life Member of VFW Post # 8686 in Sheffield Lake and was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary there.

She was employed as an engraver for General Electric Corporation. She worked at its Avon facility from 1968 through 1977 and subsequently transferred to the firm’s Oberlin plant. She continued her employment there until the time of her retirement in 1984.

Ann attended Lighthouse United Methodist Church in Lorain. In her free time she enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, crocheting, and reading with a special interest in mysteries. Additional interests included league bowling, and swimming.

Survivors include sons Thomas (Dottie) Maltarich of Lorain and Terry L. (Angela) Maltarich of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. She also leaves five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband Frank, parents Donald and Ruth (nee Moon) Hyatt, brothers William and Jack Hyatt, and by sisters Marge Mercer and Marie Hayes.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday October 17th in Resthaven Memory Gardens, 3700 Center Road, Avon. (Please gather at the A-Frame Chapel.) Crossroads Hospice Chaplain Mark Telepak will officiate.
