Photo of Clarice H. Smith Clarice H. Smith (nee Takacs), 96, of Lorain, died Tuesday November 21, 2017 at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home in Lorain.

She was born May 11, 1921 in Lorain and had lived in Lorain most of her life growing up on 23rd Street and Apple Avenue with her parents, sisters and brother. Clarice had fond memories of waking up to the fresh smell of donuts being made at Central Bakery and walking to the corner store to buy penny candy. For a few years, she lived in California traveling there with her two sons, James and Thomas, to be with her husband James who was serving with the US Army Air Force. Upon returning to Lorain, she never left again.

She always loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and looked forward to her trips to Canada to visit her daughter Kandy and her family. While she was able, she would have the family over for a home cooked dinner on Sunday afternoons. She was a resident of Oberlin Manor in Lorain for 28 years before moving to Anchor Lodge Retirement Community. She always saw the good in people and had a smile on her that everyone had to love. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her children: James Bruce Smith (Linda) of Lorain, Thomas Wayne Smith (Susan) of Vermilion and Clarice “Kandy” Marie Smith of Brampton, Ontario, Canada; 8 grandchildren: Denise Pearson (Jack), Ronald Smith (Cathy), Brian Smith (Kathy), Michelle Boni (Richard), Beverly Smith, David Smith (Elizabeth), Micheal Struc and Katie Struc; 8 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren and sister Penny Pope of Lorain. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years James L. Smith in 1986, parents William and Margaret Takacs (nee Vargo), brother Elmer Takacs and sister Geraldine Slaus.

The family will receive friends Monday November 27th from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Monday at 7:30 pm in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor of St. Peter Parish in Lorain, presiding.
