Maria Olinda Gonzalez, 87, Enjoyed Taking Care of Others

Photo of Maria Olinda Gonzalez Maria Olinda Gonzalez “Ole”, 87, of Lorain went to be with our Heavenly Father on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at Autumn Ages Nursing Home, following a lengthy illness.

She was born on December 31, 1929 in Coamo, Puerto Rico to Beato and Felicita (née Arroyo) Gonzalez. She came to live in Lorain, OH in 1970 and has lived here ever since. Maria spent most of her life as a caregiver; caring for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. For many years, she was employed by Green Circle Growers.

Maria enjoyed taking care of others, cooking, gardening, dancing and listening to Spanish music. She was an active member of Principe de Paz Lutheran Church and volunteered there for many years before it closed in 2014. She was well known for her generous heart, good food and loving spirit.

Maria will be deeply missed by her sons Daniel (Margie) Calderas, Rodolf (Diana) Caldera and Luis (Allison) Caldera Jr.; sisters Anna “Anin” Gonzalez-Rivas, and Carmen Gonzalez, 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Maria was preceded in death by her son Luis Caldera Sr.; brothers Juan Gonzalez, Adolfo Gonzalez, Julio Gonzalez, Pedro Gonzalez and sister Teotista Gonzalez.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 27 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain where her funeral services will be Tuesday at 10 AM. Rev. Crucita Marrero, Pastor of Misión Cristiana El Faro Disciples of Christ Ministries, Lorain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

The family suggests donations be made to Luis Caldera Jr. to offset burial expenses.
