Martin J. Sogan, 90, Will be Dearly Missed

Photo of Martin J. Sogan Martin J. “Marty” Sogan, 90, of Lorain, died Wednesday December 13, 2017 at Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a sudden illness.

He was born December 27, 1926 in Lorain and had lived in Lorain most of his life.

Marty worked as a carpenter by trade having built many houses. He also worked at American Shipbuilding in Lorain as a fitter before retiring.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township and the National Rifle Association. He liked to tinker around his house and fix things.

He is survived by his children: Lorraine Danley of Cambridge, Ohio, Donna Hanni (Steve) of Stone Creek, Ohio and Michael Sogan of Cleveland; grandchildren: Brian Waller (Gina), Denny Jamison (Sarah), Michael Jamison, Chris Jamison (Amanda) and Wendy Jo Danley; numerous great grandchildren; 2 favorite great great grandchildren: Kyra & Alaina Garmany; sister Margaret Taylor; special nephew Art Brown and special friend Ray Krohn. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years Helen Sogan (nee Taggart) in 2013, parents: Michael & Veronica Sogan (nee Sinnick), brothers: James & Andrew Sogan and sisters: Veronica Tokarczyk and Helen Vincek.

The family will receive friends Monday December 18th from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N Ridge Rd, Elyria. A Christian Wake Service will be held Monday at 1:00 pm in the church. The Rev. Donald Dunson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain.
