Carl "Chuck" Elenin, 80, Loved Playing with His 5 Grandchildren and Attending Their School Activities

He was born July 28, 1937 in Lorain and had resided in Vermilion since 2002 moving from Lorain.

Chuck graduated from Lorain High School Class of 1955B. He served with the US Army at Fort Bliss Nike Missile Air Defense Center earning the Good Conduct Medal and Marksman Medal and also serving on the Honor Guard.

Chuck worked at BF Goodrich in Avon Lake and Brecksville as a Lab Technician in Customer Services for 35 years retiring in December of 1999. Afterward, he worked as a Courier for Dedicated Services for 4 years.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion and a 58-year member of the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain where he served as an usher; was a member and treasurer of the Holy Name Society and played on the Holy Name softball team. In 1987, Chuck was named Holy Trinity Church Holy Name Man-of-the-Year. He was involved in many more activities at Holy Trinity including all garage sales, Sunday brunches, Chicken Paprikas dinners and decorating the church for Easter and Christmas. He was a member of the American Slovak Club in Lorain, St. John the Baptist Lodge #228, Holy Trinity Seniors, BF Goodrich Retirees Club, Vermilion Fish & Game and Disabled American Veterans Chapter # 20 of Lorain.

Chuck enjoyed playing golf, reading, riding his bicycle, target shooting, building radio-controlled boats, working in the yard, going to casinos, watching Cleveland sports teams and Ohio State football and family get-togethers with his children and grandchildren. He especially loved playing with his five grandchildren, attending their school activities and sports games.

He is survived by his wife Jeanne Elenin (nee Luca) whom he married in November of 1962, children: Barbara Campbell (Terry) of Harrison, Idaho, Paul Elenin (Susan Daunch) of Chesterland and Christine Huck (Andrew) of Cincinnati; grandchildren: Claudia Campbell, Zachary and Benjamin Elenin and Augustus “Augi” and Addison “Addi” Huck; sisters Betty Niemiec and Marcy Lamont (Dennis) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Mary Elenin (nee Martonchik), brother Robert Elenin and sisters Catherine Zemanek and Dorothy Esposito, brother-in-laws Edward Niemiec, Michael Zemanek, Dominic Esposito, Ralph Andrews and Ronald Luca and nephew Ronald Niemiec.

The family will receive friends Thursday January 25th from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain where the Holy Trinity Holy Name Society will recite the rosary Thursday at 4:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:15 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange St, Vermilion. The Rev. Ronald Brickner, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Rev. Leonard Bacik, pastor of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Middleburgh Heights, will concelebrate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where AMVETS Post #32 of Elyria will conduct military honors.
