Richard Jose Garcia, 64, Avid Cleveland Sports Fan

Photo of Richard Jose Garcia Richard Jose “Pansas” Garcia, 64, of Lorain, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, January 22, 2018 after a brief illness.

Richard was born in Lorain on August 29th, 1953 to his loving parents the late Felix R. Garcia and Angelina (Ceja) Garcia. Richard graduated from Admiral King High School, class of 1973 where he was team manager of the basketball team. After high school Rich had several jobs at grocery stores: gathering carts, greeting people and being a helper to anyone that needed assistance.

Despite his disability Rich managed to thrive at life and accomplish: driver’s license, marriage and a family. Richard was a huge fan of the Elvis song “Return to Sender” and most likely he holds the record for watching the movie GREASE! Rich was an avid Cleveland Sports Fan.

Richard was the devoted son, brother, father, uncle, nephew, grandfather and friend to everyone he met. He was a gentle, doting soul whose nieces and nephews adored and treasured him. Pansas was generous in spirit and blessed with the gift of making friends. Richard loved to play bingo, watch basketball and play cards. Richard was our “Mikey” when it came to food and he was special in every way to his family. Richard will be terribly missed by his family especially his mother who visited him regularly in the nursing home.

Richard is survived by his daughter Katherine Garcia (Axel Delgado) of Elyria; grandchildren Lorena, Mila Delgado and Michael of Lorain; his mother Angelina (Ceja) Garcia of Lorain; siblings are Felix (Sue) Garcia of Lorain, David (Kathy) Garcia of Amherst, Margaret Garcia of Lorain, Victor (Sue) Garcia of Amherst and Evangeline Garcia of Lorain; uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 19 years Lucinda “Lucy” Soto in 2007; his father Felix R. Garcia and brother Robert Garcia.

His family will receive friends Thursday, January 25 from 4 to 8 PM in Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain. A Celebration of Richard’s life will be Friday at 10 AM in the funeral home. Rev. Mark Hebebrand of the House of Praise International Church will officiate.
