Esteban "Steve" Cardenas, 90, U.S. Air Force Veteran

Photo of Esteban Esteban ”Steve” Cardenas, 90, of Lorain, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2018 in Avon Oaks Caring Community following an lengthy illness.

Esteban was born on December 26, 1927 in Saspamco, Texas. Steve lived most of his life in Lorain. He retired from General Motors - Fisher Body Elyria Plant. And he previously worked at American Ship Building and the National Tube both in Lorain. Steve served as a Sergeant with the US Air Force and was overseas. He received the World War II Victory Medal. Steve was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain and was a member of the Cursillos. Steve was also a Life Member of the VFW and Knights of Columbus.

He will be dearly missed by his son John (Denise) Cardenas of Powell; daughters Ernestine (Joseph) Bell of Lake Placid, Florida and Carrie (James) Ortiz of Elyria; sister Adela C. Rincon of Texas; brothers Fernando Cardenas-Saldana, Ruben Cardenas-Saldana and Geraldo Cardenas Saldana; grandsons Ty Bell and Lorenzo Ortiz; granddaughters Cassie (Denny) Closson and Maggie Ortiz; great grandchildren Brayden Bricker, Ryley Hranilovich, Camdyn Closson and Colyn Closson.

Steve is preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years Irene (née Siller) Cardenas on August 6, 2015; his parents Macario Cardenas and Maria Sarah (née Solis) Cardenas; brothers Ruben Cardenas, Jesse Cardenas and Enrique Cardenas-Saldana and a sister Berta Martinez Garza.

His family will receive friends Sunday, February 4 from 2 to 6 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain. Friends may also call Monday from 8:30 AM until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Father Donald Dunson, Pastor of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, Elyria will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain with Military Honors by AMVETS Post 32 Elyria.

His family suggests contributions in his memory be made to the Sacred Heart Memorial Fund, 3401 Pearl Avenue, Lorain Ohio 44055.
