John E. Lisicky, 88, U.S. Army Veteran

Photo of John E. Lisicky John E. Lisicky, 88, of Lorain, died Wednesday January 31, 2018 at St. Mary of the Woods in Avon after a short illness.

He was born July 12, 1929 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

John graduated from Holy Trinity Elementary School in Lorain and was a 1947 graduate of St. Mary Academy in Lorain was he served as class President his Senior year. He attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh where he graduated in 1951 with a bachelor’s Degree in pharmacy and was a member of the Rho Chi Honor Society.

John served with the US Army during the Korean War. Afterward, he worked as an Ohio Registered Pharmacist at National Pharmacy in Lorain and at Rite Aid Pharmacy in Lorain until his retirement.

He was a member of the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain where he served as an usher, was a member of the Holy Trinity Holy Name Society and a member of Holy Trinity Seniors. He was a member of St. Peter Parish in Lorain, member and past president of the Lorain County Pharmaceutical Society, a life member and 3rd Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council #637 of Lorain, member of the Union of Poles IPNA of Cleveland, the American Legion # 30, VFW Post #451, AMVETS Post #47 and the American Slovak Club, all of Lorain.

John enjoyed bowling and golf and was a member of Oberlin Country Club. For many years, he volunteered making sausage for fundraisers at Lorain Catholic High School. He was a very social person who loved being with his family and friends.

He is survived by his daughter Terese A. “Terri” Davis (James) of Elyria Township; granddaughter Amanda R. Clark (nee Ackerman) (David) of Boynton Beach, Florida; great grandson Jack Clark; sister Rosemary Kinkelaar (Richard) of Westlake; sister-in-law Marilyn Lisicky of Elyria; brother-in-law and sister-in-law James and Barbara Lawhead of Lorain and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Charlotte A. Lisicky (nee Kulas) on September 9, 2007, infant son John Lisicky, parents John S. and Rose Lisicky (nee Oresky), brother Robert Lisicky and sister-in-law Jane Lisicky.

The family will receive friends Sunday February 4th from 1:00-8:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Monday February 5th at 10:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Peter Parish, 3501 Oberlin Ave, Lorain. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where AMVETS Post #32 of Elyria will conduct military honors.
