Frank B. Szalay, 71, Enjoyed Golf and Fishing

He was born November 4, 1946 in Lorain and had resided in Sheffield Village for the past 40 years.

Frank graduated from Clearview High School in 1965. He worked at Invacare in Elyria as a Quality Control Auditor for over 40 years before retiring.

He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Sheffield Lake, Elks Lodge # 1301 in Lorain, Knights of Columbus Holy Family Council #4891 in Amherst, Moose Lodge #778 in Elyria, Croatian Club and American Legion # 30, both of Lorain.

Frank was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan and a Cleveland Browns season ticket holder. He enjoyed golf and fishing.

Frank’s family sends out a special “Thank You” to the doctors and nurses at O’Neill’s in North Ridgeville and the Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital for the support, love and care Frank received over the past year and a half.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years Barbara H. Szalay (nee Petcavage), daughters: Kelly Miller (Joseph III) of Amherst and Danielle Szalay of Columbus; grandchildren: Joseph Miller IV and Jordan Miller, sister Mary Trent (Daniel) of Amherst and brother John Szalay (Tammy) of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank J. & Anne Szalay (nee Caco) and sister Suzanne Hammond in 2008.

The family will receive friends Monday February 19th from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain where Elks Lodge #1301 will conduct a memorial service Monday at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Tuesday February 20th at 9:15 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 521 Harris Rd, Sheffield Lake. The Rev. Stephen Shields, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
