Carl Dragan Tkalcec, 90, Devoted and Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather

Photo of Carl Dragan Tkalcec Carl Dragan Tkalcec, 90, of Sheffield Village, died early Monday morning April 16th, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his family.

Carl was born October 28th 1927 in Kaniska Iva, Croatia, the oldest of four children. He immigrated to Lorain, OH in 1956 where he lived for 24 years, moving to Sheffield Village in 1980, where he has resided for the past 38 years.

Carl worked for Harshaw Chemical Company in Elyria for 33 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the former St. Vitus Catholic Church in Lorain until its closing in 2009, he then joined St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish in Lorain. He was a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union, Lodge 136 for 62 years, and belonged to the Lorain Croatian Club for 62 years.

Carl was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, gardening, and working on crossword and Sudoku puzzles. He also made the best homemade sausage and wine that he loved sharing with family and friends. What gave him the greatest joy, however, was spending time with his many grandchildren as they were growing up.

Carl will be deeply missed by his family. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mary (Koviak) Tkalcec (née Haas); his daughters, Vera Jacobs, Katarina Alameddin, Myra Dietrich and Susie Cruz; his stepdaughters, Ellen (Tom) Winson ,Carol (George) Fox, Ann (Don) Daugherty, and Susan (Brian) Krezman; also a sister, Maca Rebrovic of Croatia. In addition, he is survived by grandchildren, Jillian McCray, Samantha Wright, Amanda Soto, Justine Szakal, Sydney Soto, Sabreen Alameddin, Tyler Tkalcec, Yasmeen Alameddin, Casey Dietrich, Michelle Kulik, Timothy Krezman and Elizabeth Krezman. Also, by great grandchildren, Olivia, MJ, Hunter and Karlee.

Carl was preceded in death by his first wife of 25 years, Annie Tkalcec (née Belancic); also by his parents Josip and Katarina Tkalcec; sisters, Evka and Barica; and sons in law Khaled Alameddin and Frank Cruz.
His family will receive friends Friday, April 20 from 4 to 8 PM at the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain.

Closing prayers will be Saturday at 10:30 AM at the funeral home, then 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Frances Cabrini Parish, 2143 Homewood Drive, Lorain (at Grove Ave.). Rev. Father John C. Retar, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
