Duane A. Baughman, 78, U.S. Marines Veteran
Duane A. Baughman, age 78, of Avon, and formerly of Lorain, passed away at the Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital on the afternoon of Thursday May 31, 2018 following a brief illness.
He was born in Barberton, Ohio on December 15, 1939 and had been a resident of Lorain County since his childhood.
Duane was a 1958 graduate of Clearview High School; following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and fulfilled duty assignments as a Corporal during the Vietnam era. He had also completed the NCO Leadership School and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal.
Upon his return from the military, Mr. Baughman joined the Lorain Police Department and served as a patrolman from 1964 through 1968. He eventually left his career in law enforcement and joined the B.F. Goodrich Corporation in Avon Lake where he most recently worked as a foreman in the Estane Department. Duane retired in 1997 following a career that spanned over three decades with the chemical manufacturer.
Mr. Baughman was currently a parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Avon; while residing in Lorain, he had been a long-time member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
Duane’s life was centered on his family and circle of friends. In his free time he enjoyed golf as well as reading with a special interest in works dealing with history and America’s founding fathers.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years Joan (nee Breznai) and sons Ken (Amy) of Sheffield Village, Dennis (Jane) of Avon Lake, and Craig (Jennifer) also of Avon Lake. Duane also leaves grandchildren Casey, Connor, Cory, Kyle, Madelyn, Margaret, Max, and Ryan, great grandson Carson, and his brother Jack Hazlett (Patricia) residing in Spencer, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his father Forest D. Baughman, his mother Regina L McAuley (nee Scherrer), and brother Dale Baughman.
Friends may call on Sunday from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. A Rosary will be recited there beginning at 5:45 p.m. to close the visitation. Funeral services will be Monday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church (310 Eight Street). Reverend James Becherer will serve as the main celebrant with Reverend Daniel O. Divis serving as concelebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by Amvets Post # 32 of Elyria.
