Robert E. O'Brien, 86, U.S. Army Veteran
Robert E. O’Brien, 86, of Lorain, died Saturday August 18, 2018 at his home after a brief illness.He was born January 8, 1932 in Lorain and had been a lifelong resident of Lorain.
Bob graduated from Lorain High School and served in the US Army as a sergeant during the Korean War.
He worked as a plumber for the Plumbers & Pipefitters Union Local #42 in Norwalk.
Bob loved his sports teams and attended many Cleveland Indians, Browns and Cavaliers games. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. Bob made stained glass lamps and hanging lamps and enjoyed casino trips and horseracing.
He is survived by his children: Kevin O’Brien of Richmond, Virginia, Coleen (Allan) Siwierka of Elyria, Michael (Becky) O’Brien of Lorain, Mary Kay O’Brien of Lorain and Tim O’Brien of Lorain; grandchildren: Katelynn Siwierka, Matthew O’Brien and Steven Siwierka and sister Geraldine Reid of Westlake. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Kathleen O’Brien (nee Grimes) in 2006, son Terrence O’Brien in 2016, parents Eugene & Agnes O’Brien (nee Gabele) and sisters Frances Plato, Mary Katherine Daly and Virginia Ginny Nadeau.
The family will receive friends Wednesday August 22nd 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Thursday August 23rd at 10:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Peter Parish, 3501 Oberlin Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor, will officiate. Burial follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
