Virginia Rodriguez, 90, Loved Cooking and Gardening

Virginia was born May 21, 1928 to Severino and Carmen Gonzalez in Lares, Puerto Rico. She was the fourth of nine brothers and sisters; Martina (Antonio) Cardona, Camilo Audelis (Julia) Gonzalez, Ermelina (Isabel) Molina, Carmen (Mirin) Pagan, Maria (Toño) Segarra, Catalina (Luis) Diaz, Anna Delia (Leo) Rivera and Joe Gonzalez.
She married Gonzalo Pedro Rodríguez and at the age of 23 she moved to Lorain. Soon after she attended the Cleveland Business Institute, graduated with top honors, and worked at numerous places including Meyer Goldbergs in Lorain and Winn Dixie in Longwood, Florida. She was an active, founding member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain where she was involved in The Cursillo Movement. She was also very active the in Borinquen AmVets Post #58 Auxiliary, Lorain. She loved to cook, garden and spend time with family. Virginia and her husband Gonzalo retired to Longwood, Florida where they lived for 20 years before returning to Lorain in 2003. She was a member of St. Augustine Church in Longwood and served as a Lector there. She was also a member of the churches’ Altar and Rosary Society and ministry to the sick.
Virginia will be remembered by her loving daughters, Sonia (Rocky) Ortiz, Aurea Rodriguez, and Sylvia (Ed) Myslinski. Her memory will continue to be celebrated by her grandchildren Marlene (José) Ortiz, Raquel Ortiz, Simon Ortiz (Dawnya Walters), David (Denise) Rodriguez, Jeremiah (Lorena) Ortiz, and Daniel (Candace) Ortiz. She will always be loved by her great-grandchildren Andrés, Sofia, César, Aurea, Harper, Emma, and Julia and great-great-granddaughter Isabella.
Other than her parents Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years Gonzalo Rodriguez in 2013, daughter Elsa Rodriguez, sisters Martina, Carmen and Maria and brother Camilo Audelis.
Her family will receive friends on Friday, August 24 from 4 to 8 PM at Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, Lorain. Friends may also call Saturday from 11 AM until 12 PM Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Father William A. Thaden, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
