Rafael Nieves Hernandez, 65, Enjoyed Vegetable Gardening
Rafael “Rafo” Nieves Hernandez, 65, of Lorain, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2018 in his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born October 18, 1951 in Naranjito, Puerto Rico to Modesto Nieves and Josefa Hernandez. Rafo came to Lorain in 1976. He retired from Arrow Aluminum in Avon Lake in 2001. He worked there for over 25 years. After his retirement Rafo returned to Puerto Rico and came back to Lorain last year. He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain and was a member of the Cursillo and a neighborhood prayer group. He enjoyed vegetable gardening. He loved spending time with his family.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 47 years Ana Nieves Santiago of Lorain, daughters Carmen Nieves of Michigan, Ana Nieves of Lorain; sons Hector (Fawn) Nieves of Elyria, Louis Nieves of Orville and Ivan (Andrea) Nieves of Lorain; brothers Jose “Cheo” Nieves and Miguel Nieves of Naranjito; sisters Rosaura Nieves, Maria Nieves, Delia Nieves and Elba “Nelly” Nieves all of Naranjito; 24 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Other than his parents Rafo was preceded in death by his sisters Luz Nerida Nieves and Lydia Nieves.
His family will receive friends Tuesday, August 28 from 4 PM until time of service at 7 PM in Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain. Deacon Tony DeGracia of Sacred Heart Chapel will officiate.
