Helen M. Szabo, 90, Enjoyed Being Outside Working in Her Garden

Photo of Helen M. Szabo Helen M. Szabo, 90, of Sheffield Township, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018 in her home following a brief illness.

She was born November 2, 1928 in Lorain to John and Helen (née Latrany) Szabo. Helen graduated from Clearview High School in 1946 where she played drums in the school band. She worked at Schuiferstein Insurance and Bendix Co. in Elyria. Helen retired as a secretary for the Lorain County Commissioners office. She was a founding member of St. Vincent De Paul Church in Elyria and was a member of the Legion of Mary and the Alter and Rosary Society. Helen enjoyed being outside working in the garden. She loved spending time with her family.

Helen is survived by her sister Elizabeth Frey of Port Charlotte, Florida; her nephew Greg Winchel of Lorain, sister in law Madeline Szabo; nieces Helen Muska, Kathy Ratliff and Madeline Anderson; nephews David and William Szabo. She also leave many cousins in Hungary and Slovakia.

Other than her parents Helen was preceded in death by her brothers John and Bert Szabo; two siblings in infancy; her aunt Margaret Szabo and brother in laws Tom Velleff and Donald C. Frey.

Her family will receive friends Friday, November 23 from10 AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at St. Vincent De Paul Church, 41295 N. Ridge Road, Elyria. Rev. Father John C. Retar, Pastor of St. Frances Cabrini Parish, Lorain will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
