Jose Rivera, 95, Enjoyed Baseball

Photo of Jose Rivera Jose Rivera, 95, of Lorain, passed away, Wednesday, November 21, 2018 surrounded by his family in his home.

He was born November 26, 1922 in Coamo, Puerto Rico to Jose and Maria (née Ortiz) Rivera. He came to Lorain in 1955. He retired from Pierre Foods, Lorain in 2010 at the of 87. He enjoyed baseball. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, were he helped in the kitchen and was an usher. He helped others by driving them and running errands.

He will be deeply missed by daughters Carmen (Domingo) Carrion of Lorain, Zorida (Noah) Johnson of Winterhaven, Florida and Norma (Raul) Olivieri of Hammond, Indiana; son Jose (Maria) Rivera of Youngstown; 14 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; numerous great great and great great great grandchildren.

Other than his parents Jose was preceded in death by his wife Susan in April 2007; sisters Marta, Mercedes, Leonor and a brother Santo.

His family will receive friends Friday, November 23 from 4 to 8 PM at Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain. Friends may also call Saturday from 8:30 until Mass of Christian Burial 9:30 AM at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Father John C. Retar pastor of St. Frances Cabrini Parish, Lorain will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

His family suggests contributions to the Sacred Heart Memorial Fund, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44055.
