William L. Futrall, 76, U.S. Marines Veteran
William L. Futrall, age 76, of Sheffield Township, passed away at the Ames Family Hospice on the morning of Wednesday December 19, 2018.
Born in Lorain on July 14, 1942, Bill was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he attained the rank of Lance Corporal and fulfilled duty assignments as an anti-tank assault man. He was recognized as Company I Marine of the Month in October of 1961 and was selected for that honor on the basis of his high degree of leadership, self-discipline, and outstanding performance. He was the recipient of Rifle Marksmanship Badge as well as the Good Conduct Medal.
He was employed as a superintendant at Ford Motor Company’s Lorain Assembly Plant retiring in 1995 following a career that spanned more than thirty-one years with the automaker.
Bill was welcomed into Charleston Lodge # 702, F & A.M. on March 25, 1971 and ultimately attained recognition as a 32nd Degree Mason. He remained active with the order for many years.
He enjoyed many interests including antiquing, boating, sailing, and motocross racing. He was also known for his love of nature and never missed an opportunity to feed the wildlife that visited his property. Additional interests included maintaining and working around his yard, as well as spending time with his family.
Bill is survived by his wife of fifty-five years Carol (nee Mannillo), son Todd Futrall (Clyeda) of Lorain, daughter Tracy Orseno (Anthony) of North Ridgeville, grandsons Garrett and Zachary Orseno, brother Terry Futrall (Kathleen), and pet cat Mommie.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Geraldine (nee Huber) Futrall, and niece Dusty M. Futrall.
Friends may call Saturday December 22nd from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Military honors conducted by Amvets Post # 32 of Elyria will conclude the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, Bill’s family encourages contributions in his memory to either the Friendship Animal Protective League, Amvets Post # 32 Food Pantry, or the Hospice of the Western Reserve.
