Linda M. Sekular, 72, Gentle Spirit with a Kind Soul
Linda M. Sekular, 72, of Lorain, It is with deepest regrets that we impart the news of the death of our cousin, on Sunday, December 30, 2018, in Lorain following a brief illness.
She was born in Lorain, on November 13, 1946, to Harry and Helen (née Tomazic), who preceded her in death as did her maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Mary Tomazic; paternal grandparents, Peter and Nellie Sekular; as well as aunts and uncles Betty and Frank Tomazic, Mary and Robert Klein, Shirley Janik; Ann and Leonard Sekular.
At birth Linda’s health prognosis was far from hopeful, but she slowly but handily overcame the obstacles and thrived in the family’s loving care.
Ms. Sekular graduated in 1964 from Admiral King High School and went on to attend Ohio State University. Following university attendance she set up residence in Lakewood, while working in Cleveland, for a period of some 15 years. After that she returned to Lorain, where she resided with her parents, while working as a bookkeeper at a locally owned business. Prior to that and during her retirement she was an active member of the Lorain Slovenian Club, holding various offices and eventually becoming a member of the board of directors. Aside from participating in this fraternal organization, she was also a member of the former Saints Cyril and Methodius Church, Lorain.
Linda will be remembered as a gentle spirit with a kind soul who had a hearty laugh as well as an amiable smile to accompany her amicable personality. She enjoyed the pleasures of the following: family gatherings celebrating holidays, family members’ birthdays and other significant events; setting up her Christmas Village display which grew from a small unit to one covering the entire top surface of a large dining room table; savoring varied ethnic foods or the resulting foods of new recipes; and day trips to areas of special interest to her.
Surviving family members include the following: loving cousins, Laureen Ferlic of LaGrange, and Helena Mitchell of Troy; also Glenn Tomazic of Powell. Other cousins are
Robert Klein of Minnesota and Kathy Toth. She also cherished her longtime friendship of a former neighbor, Jane Mowery.
There will be no visitation at this time, although the family is arranging for a memorial celebration of Linda’s life to be scheduled at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers it is suggested that one may make a memorial contribution in her name to the charity of choice.
