Luis F. Salva, 79, Enjoyed Playing Pool, Dominoes, Softball and Bowling

Photo of Luis F. Salva Luis F. “Lilo” Salva, 79, of Lorain, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at his home with his loving family at his side.

Lilo was born July 29, 1939 in Caguanas, Puerto Rico to the late Cesario and Juana (née) Velez Salva. He came to Lorain in 1965 and began his career at U.S. Steel Lorain. He retired from the 4 Seamless Mill in 2001.

Lilo enjoyed playing pool, dominoes, softball and bowling. He took great pride in maintaining his home and gardening. He was also well known for his pig roasts. He was president of Puerto Rican home and volunteered remodeling of the building. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain and St. Vincent DePaul Society.

He is survived by his wife Nelida “Nellie” (née Soto) Salva of Lorain. His daughters, Yolanda (Eric) Burich of Lorain and Elisa (Mark) Calez of Lorain and his son Luis (Tanya) Salva of Mississippi. His adoring grandchildren Arianna, Adrian, Alexa, Sydney, Olivia, Brooklyn, Gabriella, Viviana, Haylee and Steven and his only great granddaughter Madden Vera. His sisters Margarita and Isabel of Puerto Rico, Sara of Florida and a brother Moises of New York.

Other than his parents Lilo was preceded in death by his daughter Marilyn M. Salva and sisters Carmen and Myrta.

His family will receive friends Monday, February 4 from 3 to 8 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain. Friends may also call Tuesday at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, South Lorain, from 9:30 AM until his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. Rev. Father John C. Retar, Pastor of St. Frances Cabrini Parish will be the Celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
