Olga Iris Rivera, 73, Enjoyed Playing Pool and Bingo
Olga Iris Rivera, 73, of Lorain, passed away peacefully at her home Thursday, January 31, 2019 with husband and family by her side.
She was born August 22, 1945, in Ponce, Puerto Rico to Maria Elena Rodriguez and Anastasio Mercado. She moved to Lorain 1968.
Olga was a former Lorain City School employee as a cafeteria worker and also was employed at Bonne Bell and was a nursing assistant at Rae Ann Nursing Home both in Westlake. She enjoyed playing pool, bingo, bowling, traveling, cooking, casino and dancing. Watching Spanish Novelas while eating chicharones. She was well known for her beautiful long nails and she loved her little bop bops (her great grandson Jose Antonio). Olga was an active member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, where she worked in the kitchen and was a member of the Cursillo Movement and Marriage Encounter. She was also a member of the Puerto Rican Home.
She will be deeply missed by her husband of 54 years Jose "Mon" Rivera. Olga is also survived by Marisol (David) Petrefski of Lorain, George (Carrie) Rivera of Florida, Hector (Barbara) Souffront of Florida, Lydia Ramirez of Lorain, Dr. Jose Angel Rivera of Ponce; Puerto Rico. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Other than her parents Olga was preceded in death by her sisters Alicia Pagan and Amparo Sierra and brothers Jose Angel and Angel Luis Mercado.
Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 5, ���from 4 to 8 PM at Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain. Friends may also call Wednesday from 8:30 until 9:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Father Andrew Hoover of St. Peter Catholic Church, North Ridgeville will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
His family suggests contributions to the Sacred Heart Memorial Fund, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain Ohio 44055.
